With two young kids, it was a high priority to have a designated play space on our main level. We choose a floor plan with a Den/4th Bedroom that we can use as a playroom while they’re young. This way we can see what the kids are doing without them completely destroying our main living space. {disclaimer: they still destroy our main living areas, but this helps a tiny bit!}
It was important to keep it kid friendly yet aesthetically pleasing. The kids and I both really enjoy hanging out in here. It’s bright, cheery, comfortable and has a pop of color that I love.
I found the couch a few months back and was sold instantly. Sadly, it’s sold out but here is a similar style (and it’s on sale!).
The coffee table is vintage and was such a score. Brady was demoing an old hospital in Anaconda, MT a few years back and found this in their storage– it was covered in mouse poop and ready to go to the dump when he saved it. Smart man.
The panton junior chairs pair perfectly with the tulip table and make a good spot to color or build puzzles. And you can’t wrong with a Bolga basket (similar) if you’re looking for cute handmade storage for your favorite books.
The lamp (similar) and animal heads (panda, shark, zebra) are Target finds.
The wood cabinets are such a stylish and affordable storage solution. They hold soooo many toys and games… now if only I could train my kids to put the toys and games back in the cabinets after playing with them. Feel free to chime in with your tips on this matter?!!

This is the playroom that convinced me to click order on those wood cabinets.

If you’re short on space, don’t over look an empty attic or an under the stairs storage area.

Use rugs and furniture pieces that you would want to use in rest of your home.

This wallpaper would look equally as stylish in a grown up space. The neutral accessories tone it down a bit.

It’s so important to have a comfy spot to sit. It will motivate you to spend more time in the room. And your kids will also be more inclined to hang out (and keep their toys) in the space.

I’m totally jealous of the kids that get to hang out in this space.

Let your kids get involved with the decor by swapping out favorite art pieces.

I love the 3rd photo that looks like it’s in an attic. The reality is that adults and older children could potentially bang their head in there, though. Your boys play room is awesome too with all the sunshine streaming in.
