Cute House: Do this to it!

This home is lovely.  I saw it hit the market and my stomach sank because I would have bought this in a heart beat 2 years ago when we were House Hunting.  After trying to ignore it for a few days, I still couldn’t fight the feeling.  I was convinced this was the one and was thinking of how we could quickly sell our house that we have been in for less than two years.

Brady and I set up a showing and were both very excited.

Unfortunately, it’s not the one for us.  It is a beautiful home on a beautiful piece of land with an even better view.  But the balcony’s and deck were heart attack inducing (they’re fine.. we just have wild children who think they are real life super heros) and the 5 acres of wild brush seemed too much for us to take on.

While it is not for us, it may be the right for one of you!  It could use a little updating and here are all my ideas of what I would have done if we had bought it.

The roof looks to be concrete which I’m not very familiar with as it’s not something you see everyday in MT.  I’m sure it’s fine and you could work with it if you were to keep the color scheme light on the exterior.  But I simply couldn’t resist saving for a copper metal roof.

I would also replace all the windows and doors with Black.  I can’t kick my black window obsession.  Black garage doors too… Make sure they are modern, flat paneled garage doors.

And paint the exterior a soft black.  That’s right, I haven’t kicked that obsession yet either!

The front of the home has quite the deck.  It’s large and has an incredible view.

I would promptly install a new composite wood toned deck with these stunning glass rails… You don’t want to block that view!

The entry has the most stunning wood walls.  In fact there are wood walls and ceilings throughout the home.  I would add a round entry table where the recliner is currently.

Like this one with a large plant atop it.

First of all, I would not paint any of the wood ceilings.  They are my favorite feature of this home.  But I would modernize the fireplace a bit.  Probably by framing it out, floor to ceiling and painting the same color as the rest of the room.  And leave the brick on either side.  If the brick isn’t your thing, paint it white.

I would replace all floor coverings with a nice light wood.  It would be nearly impossible to match a wood flooring to the wood on the ceilings.  Using a lighter wood with some of the same tones as the walls would be your best bet.  Or you could get lucky and there might be concrete floors under the current flooring! (if it’s on a slab foundation?)  If they’re in good shape, get them polished and sealed.

I would 100% do black slab cabinets with either a wooden island or wood accents throughout.  Use integrated appliances for a simple, streamlined look.

This would be a fun spot to add some banquette seating.

The main level bedroom would make an excellent playroom or guest bedroom.

How cool would it be to build out toy storage around that closet and install a bench seat.  Like this.

With a playful wallpaper in the center.  Like this.

Keep the main level bath nice and bright as there is no natural light.

One thing I noticed was that this handrail would need some added balusters if you have small children.  You could either add some more wood or replace to match the handrail used around the deck remodel.

My boys would have to share a bedroom if we bought this house.  But it’s a pretty nice room.  I love the wood ceilings.

I would build them a bunk wall to free up some floor space.

They would also get their own private balcony.  This is cool but I’m sure I would be freaking out all the time and would ultimately lock the door up until they are older and more mature.

I would have some fun in the kids bath.

I’d tile the floor and walls in something like this.  I also really love the white fixtures.

And a use large wooden floating vanity like this one.

Keep the family room clean and streamlined with lots of built in storage.

I like this vanity and fixtures for the Master Bath.

With a statement tile in the shower and a squared off glass door.

I would replace the top loaders with front loaders.  This allows the option of installing a counter top above for storage.

I would also wallpaper the entire room, including the ceilings.

Last but not least, we would have to get a horse or two… because, 5 acres!

So what do you think?  What would you do differently?  And if you want to take a look at this house.. don’t hesitate to call me for a showing.  I would love to be the one to sell it!

*Home is active on the market at the time of this post. If you read this at a later date, the home may be sold or off the market. Contact me to for more information or to find a similar home. All opinions are my own. And of course, there is nothing wrong with this house as it is.. I just got inspired to show what I would do.

  1. Good ideas Kristi. That house was so cool. I could picture myself sitting by that fireplace with a good book and that wonderful view.
