I was searching through the MLS this morning and was shocked to see this home is still on the market. I just love the Prospect area. It’s in close proximity to the River’s Edge Trail and this particular home has a view of the river.
I’m sure the reason it hasn’t sold is because it’s a bit dated… it’s a single owner home built in 1950. That is a win win for you if you’re looking for something you can put your own personal stamp on. It’s probably been well cared for (single owner) so you could likely live in it while you fix it up.
So here is a little inspiration if you’re still not convinced.
The exterior already has metal siding and decent landscaping.
I would add a small wooded pergola over the garage door to separate it from the entry. Then add a new modern, black front door.
I like the look of this pergola (ignore the rest of the house in this photo)

And this front door.

The driveway extends along the entire front of the house. I would designate this part of the driveway as an outdoor sitting space. A pergola and string lights wouldn’t be a bad idea to help separate the areas.
Like so.

I would also build a new wooden front porch and add a modern black railing. Like this one.

Look at the view! And I love the trees.
Just imagine it with the right outdoor furniture. I’d never leave!

The deck looks like it could use a tiny bit of work. Use the same black railings you used out front.
I like that there are so many different outdoor sitting areas. Designate one area of the deck for outdoor dining and another for lounging.

Add some pretty new swinging chairs below the deck.

I love the beams. And I love the windows. I would ditch the curtains and do solar shades in the living room. That way you don’t block the natural light or the view and you still have privacy when you need it. Match the hard wood floors to the ones in the rest of the house.. Or hope the originals are under the carpet!

You could pull inspiration from this stunning home when updating the corner fireplace.

This dining room looks big and full of natural light! Ditch the curtains, add a new fixture and you have a great space!
Be sure to pick fixtures and furnishings that have nods to the mid century vibe. You don’t have to go all out, but please, don’t go traditional in this home.

Give the walk in shower a bit of a make over with some stone and a new glass door.

Or if you must have a tub, this freestanding tub/shower combo with a big slab of marble behind.

Have you ever seen wallpapered cabinets? Neither have I.
If the wall between the dining and kitchen is not load baring, tear it down!
Floor to ceiling wood cabinets would be lovely in this house. Incorporate some colored cabinets and floating shelves too.

So what do you think? What would you do differently? And if you want to take a look at this house.. don’t hesitate to call me for a showing. I would love to be the one to sell it!
*Home is active on the market at the time of this post. If you read this at a later date, the home may be sold or off the market. Contact me to for more information or to find a similar home. All opinions are my own. And of course, there is nothing wrong with this house as it is.. I just got inspired to show what I would do.
This house and your inspiration is right up my alley. I’m still a sucker for a good mid-century gem!
